The 'Need to Know' Guide to the Fair Work Bill
You are here:If, like us, you turn slightly bleary-eyed when you think about the proposed next phase of changes to our industrial relations system to be introduced by the Fair Work Bill, you might find our 'Need to Know' summary of the Act is just the ticket.
In putting this summary together, we thought about what things are changing that will directly impact a business, even if management had not wanted to initiate anything new. Our thinking was that if an employer wanted to change something of its own volition, it could always get advice at that point.
We also thought you might prefer the 'drip, drip' approach, where we provide you with information in stages and some commentary, rather than bury you in the whole lot all at once. Certainly, that's what we prefer for ourselves.
So, here is the start of our review of the major changes planned to be introduced by the Fair Work Bill with a focus on new National Employment Standards and changes to Unfair Dismissal laws, in particular the things you can't ignore even if you wanted to.
As this is a summary, you should contact us for the specifics before making any decisions based on the information provided. The laws also still need to be passed through Parliament, so some things could change, although the Federal Opposition has indicated it won't oppose the majority of the changes.
