More Public Holidays in Queensland
You are here:Following a recent review by the Queensland State Government, Queenslanders will receive additional public holidays from in the Christmas/New Year period and next year's Queen’s Birthday holiday will be moved - plus another special day added for 2012.
From Christmas Day 2011, the Queensland Holidays Act provides for an extra public holiday to be added when Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day falls on a weekend.
From 2012, the Queen’s Birthday holiday moves to the first weekend in October. However in 2012, a special one off Queen’s Diamond Jubilee holiday will be celebrated on the current day – second Monday in June. This is designed to get a more even spread of the holidays across the year and the extra holiday declared on the same day is to minimise the impact of the transfer of the day.
